This school year, 2007-2008, finds me teaching second grade after teaching first grade for the last 4 years. It is so fun to come up to second grade, knowing so many of these second graders! However, second grade is not new to me. I previously taught second grade at Vento (or formerly East Consolidated) for 20 years. So it feets quite natural for me to be back again! I am excited and looking forward to a great year!

Helpful Information For Parents
Book Bags: Every child will be given a Ziploc bag
along with a book and a form for an adult to sign after the book has been read at home. Reading the book together with your child will be beneficial for all of you! When your child returns the Book Bag to me, they can choose another book. Try to read every night! It is so important - and fun!

Weekly Spelling Journals: Every Monday each child will be given a Weekly Spelling Journal. In the Journal there will be a page for each night of the week where the students can practice writing their Spelling Words at home. Please help your child study these words throughout the week. They will have a test on their words for the week each Friday. They will need to return the Spelling Journal in their Homework Folder each Friday. Children who have a perfect Spelling test will have their "star" put up on the wall as a Super Speller for the week! More information will be coming later this fall when we begin our Spelling program.

Weekly Homework Folders: Every Monday, your child will bring home a Homework Folder. Inside it, there will be notices from the office, as well as some worksheets to do. Please help your child remember to complete and return the Homework on Friday. If everyone remembers to return their Homework on Friday, our class will have an ice cream party the following Monday! Yum! Also, each child who remembers to return their homework completed on Friday, will be able to participate in or share the treat for the afternoon. Responsibility pays off! Remember, all homework is due every Friday!
