Hello! My name is Matt Shimon and I am a Kindergarten teacher at Bruce Vento Elementary School. Welcome to my classroom web page.
I have been employed by St. Paul Public Schools since 1998. During this time I have had the priviledge to work with a variety of age groups, including: pre-Kindergarten, 1st grade, 4th grade, and 5th grade. From these experiences, I feel I have gained a better understanding of my Kindergarten learners, both socially and academically (i.e. where they are coming from and where they are heading). Education means the world to me and I love learning with my students as they grow and change throughout the school year.
In my educational life, I obtained a Bachelors of Science in Youth Development and Research from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, in 2001. In 2010, I acquired a Masters of Arts in Teacher Education from the University of St. Thomas. I continue to seek out learning opportunities to build my knowledge of the classroom and the learners with whom I work.
In my personal life, my significant other and I have been married since 2001. We enjoy spending time with our friends and family and caring for animals. We enjoy the outdoors, listening to music, and watching action movies.
As a teacher, I view the classroom as a workshop that needs the entire community in order to function optimally. With this in mind, please know that my classroom door is always open! I hope to see you soon.
