Ms. Sauer, gifted services specialist
Bruce Vento Elementary is pleased to offer Gifted and Talented Services to our student population.  Ms. Kristi Sauer, our Gifted Services Specialist, works with students K-6 who have been identified in the district three ways: 1. Through the NNAT test : Most students are identified for SEM by their high scores on the Naglieri Non-Verbal Assessment Tool. This test is administered each year to all kindergarten and second graders in January. Students in grades 1, 3, 4, and 5 may be nominated by their parents or teachers to take this test. 2. PORTFOLIO: Sometimes students who do not perform well on the assessment show high learning performance or potential in other areas. Parents and teachers may work with the Gifted Services Specialist to create a portfolio that shows the individual strengths of the student. Portfolios are reviewed each spring by a committee of experts. 3. INFORMAL RECOMMENDATION: Sometimes teachers, parents, or students themselves recommend learners for particular areas of study. Perhaps a student has a strong interest in trees or a noticeable talent in math. These students can also be referred to the Gifted Services Specialist for services.

This is Ms. Sauer's 9th year teaching in the St Paul Public Schools, with experience at Wellstone (formerly Saturn Riverfront Academy) as a special education teacher, and serving as the Gifted Services/Schoolwide Enrichment Specialist at Dayton's Bluff, Sheridan, North End and Bruce Vento Elementaries.  Her hobbies include reading, scrapbooking, photgraphy, graphic and webdesign.   Ms. Sauer is also continuing her graduate studies this year at the University of St Thomas..
