Science

Shelley Norton
I have been the Science Specialist here at Bruce F. Vento since 2004 and I love teaching science! Bruce Vento's students and staff are absolutely the best and most caring people I've ever encountered. I truly believe Vento is the place to be!
When students are in the science lab, they will have very hands-on inquiry-based experience in both science and engineering, in which students are very engaged in completing and even creating their own investigations.
Kindergarten starts the year with an in-depth look at the weather and continues it throughout the year. Every day I have a student meterologist who gives the weather report. We then move on to physical and life science.
1st grade, 4th grade and 5th grade start the year with physical science investigations, such as, motion, electricity and force. While 2nd and 3rd grade start the year looking into life sciences, such as plants, mealworms and seeds.
As specialists (science, art and music), we see your students on a two-week rotation, which is amazing for science, because I really get a chance to know your students, and they get a chance to go really in-depth into their experiments.
By the way, that's me in the picture along with my now 18-year-old son, Scott!

Alicia Thor
Hello, my name is Alicia Thor and I am the Environmental Science Teacher at Bruce Vento. I have been with Saint Paul Public Schools for 7 years, which I spent teaching Kindergarten. I am so excited to take on this new to role as Bruce Vento becomes an environmental magnet school. Your children and I will be doing lots of outdoors exploration, learning about the environment around us and so much more!
A couple other facts about me is that I enjoy spending time with my family (my husband and 2 daughters). One of our favorite things to do together is camping! I also enjoy crafting and reading books.
Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions. Let's have a great 25-26 school year!
