What a busy first 3 months of school we are having so far! Students are in their 3rd rotation for Technology. Here's what we've done so far:
PreK-K: Students are exploring the laptops, learning how to use the mouse track & external mouse while engaging in a lot of learning activities online. We've talked about Internet Safety and the importance of staying on things that are just right for them. PreK & Kindergarteners will soon be learning how to Keyboard (working on their Typing skills) and creating projects using Seesaw tools. They will also start on coding to expand their higher order thinking skills.
1-2nd: Students are learning how to log into their laptops with their unique username and passcode. They will need to remember these two pieces of information in order to get into the laptops each time they are in technology class. We started learning about our computer parts, worked on keyboarding and coding. We will continue to use Seesaw tools to create projects to complement what they are learning in their classrooms. We will also continue to discuss about Internet Safety as well as being a good digital citizen user.
3-5th: Students in the upper grades are learning about the laptop systems and operations right of the bat. They have changed their wallpaper, dock and home page as part of their learning process. Most students are doing really well. We've started Keyboarding and I've been impressed with many students' ability to type. However, we need to work on the proper keyboarding (home row keys). In the second quarter, we will focus on coding, working on projects that utilize their google documents and design using keynote tools. Fourth & fifth graders will also be doing a Wish List in December. This is a lesson where they go online to select things that they wish they could get if they have certain amount of money. This internet lesson will focus on appropriate use and knowing how to copy and paste items from the internet onto a document.
I hope the students are enjoying their technology time. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask.
