Attendance Policy

REMINDER: It is important for students to be in school the entire time that school is in session. At Bruce Vento Elementary students should be in their classroom from 9:30 a.m. until they are dismissed by their teacher at the end of the day at 4 p.m. Tardy students and students that are picked up early are distracting to the entire classroom. Students leaving early may miss last minute instructions given by the teacher.

The Law

Once enrolled in a public school, a child 5 years old to 18 years old, (unless already graduated from high school), must attend school all day, every day, on time, unless lawfully excused.

Attendance in the Winter

Please remember that you may need to allow extra time in the morning to get your student to school on time. Students are allowed in the building at 9:10 a.m. for Breakfast to Go. Students not in their classrooms at 9:30 a.m. will be marked tardy. Bad weather and cold temperatures are not accepted as excused absences.

Vacations

If your student will be missing school due to a planned vacation, send a note to school stating the reason the student will not be in school and the days the student will be absent. The Principal will make the decision as to whether or not the absence will be excused.

To avoid referral to the Family Truancy Prevention Program do not pick up your child(ren) early from school unless:

  • The student is ill
  • The student has a medical/dental appointment
  • There is a family emergency
  • NOTE: Documentation may be required to excuse these absences
