Katy Steinbach, School Counselor

About Ms. Steinbach

My name is Katy Steinbach and I am the school counselor at Bruce Vento Elementary.  I have been a part of the Vento family since 2017.  I graduated from the College of St. Benedict in 2014 with a degree in Psychology and received my masters degree from the University of Minnesota.  When I'm not spending time with the students at Vento, I love to run, travel, hike, ski, camp, and spend time with my family :)

My approach to counseling is one of love and compassion.  Building relationships with students is a priority of mine.  I love and advocate for every student who walks into our building.

The Counseling Program

The counseling program at Vento aims to meet the academic, social, emotional, and college/career needs of ALL students.  I meet these needs through teaching counseling lessons regularly throughout the school year.  Every class K-5 has a weekly counseling lesson.  Lesson topics include:

  • Academic Success Skills

  • Bullying Prevention

  • Social/Emotional Skills

  • Career Exploration

  • Personal Safety

ALL students have access to the school counselor through these classroom lessons, as well as through individual and small group counseling.

  • Counseling Program Mission

In collaboration with staff, families, and community partners, the school counseling program at Bruce Vento provides equitable access to the support and advocacy all students need for academic success.  The school counseling program empowers all students with career and college readiness, and academic and social-emotional skills, inspiring them to think critically, pursue their dreams, and change the world.

  • Counseling Program Vision

As high school graduates, Bruce Vento students embrace each other’s differences and encourage each other in academic, career, and social/emotional pursuits.  With grit and determination, our students pursue college and careers that best fit them.  They have the skills and the responsibility to positively impact our community.
